Yard Work Day

Yesterday was a BEAUTIFUL day! It was warm with a cool breeze. We spent the day outside getting things ready for the summer. Ken chopped down the dead parts of the large tree in the back yard. It was coming down slowly with every rain storm but he decided not to wait for hurricane season. I think he just wanted to climb a tree and play with the chainsaw. I eventually had to pull the electrical plug to the saw to get him to stop. I got the best job. I got to take pictures, make sure the logs did not fall on any children or dogs, and pick up all the fallen limbs and drag large logs around. Yipee.

We also have banana trees in our backyard. These need to be cut back every year. They are messy and full of water. They are also completely against all laws of nature.
**This is absolutely NOT an exaggeration**
Within 1 hour of chopping the banana trees off at about head level, they had grown two inches! Two inches in an hour. That's just not right.

Ken did most of the tree chopping, while Kenny and I bundled leaves and stalks with twine. I did get to use the machete a bit. It was fun. We put little Kenny to work as well. He took a swipe at one of the smallest trees. He also picked up leaves and sticks and pulled weeds. Look at the cute little work gloves he's got on! We're trying to teach him to work as a family. It's going okay...sometimes. I was so proud of him and how hard he worked with us.

Nathan helped too. He took a nap which saved all our sanity. Then he helped "mow" the yard. What would we do without him.

I love the age when they want to be helpers. I wish we had some yardwork to do. We still don't even have a lawn mower. We need to come to your house one weekend so Kevin can come work on your yard with you and feel manly again.
