Our family, Margaret and Spencer, are in town. I had to work yesterday, but Ken was going to do something with them and the kids, pick me up after work, and we'd all go to the aquarium.
But things did not go exactly as planned.
Ken got called to interview for a job, so everyone loaded up and drove an hour to the airport to hang out while Ken interviewed (he got the job). Now, I was at work, but apparently they drove to downtown and ended up near Rice University and who knows where else-driving all over the city. By about 4:00 they picked me up- having been in the car all day except the airport. We drove to the house to let the dog out and headed to the aquarium. Ken wanted to take the longer scenic route and drove down the water front beaches. We got to the aquarium at 5:45. According to the website, the aquarium was open until 8:00, but apparently they were closing at 6:00. They let us walk in for free and look around for about 10 minutes. Back at the car, we decided to drive to the boardwalk and have a seafood meal on the waterfront. An hour later we arrive at the boardwalk only to find out our favorite restaurant is no more!!! We go the the seafood house next door and after about 15 minutes of waiting and perusing the less-than-appealing menu, we leave to go to a different restaurant in search of crab.
Two restaurant later we decided to leave the boardwalk to drive to another restaurant who advertises crab. But the wait time is an hour. By this time it is 8:10 at night and I had not eaten a bite of food since 10:30 am. So we drive 30 minutes back towards home and end up at a Mongolian bbq. It was wonderful...of course I was so hungry roadkill sounded good. We made astop at Garden Ridge after dinner. I need a few things for work, Margaret bought a church bag for about $3.00, and Nathan found a Very Hungry Caterpillar puzzle. He is addicted to that book and he loving carried that puzzle all over the store, to the car, and all the way home. It was so cute! We finally got home at 10:30.
On an upside, Kenny gave us the recipe for eating shark. He said you need to "fish it out, un-wet it, chop it up into little pieces (insert hand movements), and cook it with glass and light."
He was also very distressed on our way to the bbq place exclaiming, "We are never going to eat again! Everything is closed to us!"
