Happy Anniversary

When we were first dating, Ken worked at a flower shop as a delivery driver. This meant that I always had a fresh supply of beautiful purple roses. These arrived for me on Friday. I haven't had purple roses in a long time because Ken has not been able to find a shop that carries them here. I was positively giddy with delight when these arrived. They are absolutely beautiful! This picture does not begin to do them justice.

Today we celebrate 7 years of wedded bliss. Ken and I met on a blind date on September 3rd of 1999. I was 19 and had just returned to school from the summer at home. The week before I returned, I got a call from one of my roommates who said she had been hanging out this this new group of people and she had met this guy named Ken. She said she thought of me instantly and that we were going to be best friends or hate each other. Within a week of returning to school, I found myself waiting in the living room of my apartment for him to arrive. Ken had spent the summer working on a cattle ranch, and he showed up decked out in full cowboy gear (boots. hat, belt buckle, Wranglers, and a goatee). We were both very reluctant to go on this date. I had my eye on another boy in the complex. We went out to Applebee's for dinner. I remember having a salad. I was very nervous, but in a a good way. After dinner, this drunk guy in the parking lot asked us when we were getting married. Ken put his arm around me and said, "We're headed to Vegas right now." We went back to my apartment and I changed into a sweatshirt. We headed up the canyon and parked at this beautiful spot. We talked for hours (and did a little kissing- don't judge me.) I had the most wonderful feeling the whole time. When I got home that night my roommate asked me how things went and I told her "I think I'm going to marry him." Four weeks later he bought my ring and nine months after that we were married in the Salt Lake temple at 9:40 am.

Guess what- my new niece was born today. Check on Mike and Ashlyn's blog to see!

Happy Anniversary, Ken and Chiara! I still remember Chiara's tales of a charming man in wranglers. Wishing you two all the best!

I remember when you meet Kenny and I remember that he was a cowboy...belt buckles and all! Did you ever get him that Iowa belt buckle? Anyways...married for seven years. It doesn't seem that long! Congrats on the Wedding Anniversary. I hope Joe and I are as happy after seven years.
